Match interaction

Icon_Zuordnungsaufgabe.png A task of the type match interaction allows the user to match answer pairs. Two items can be assigned to one another via drag and drop at a time. In addition to answer pairs, it is also possible to define incorrect answer alternatives, so-called distractors or deflectors.

Description

Assignment items

In this area, you can add and edit answer pairs or incorrect answer alternatives. The ordering of the items and the associated pairs is the same when viewed as a test. Thus, the answer pairs do not necessarily have to be arranged next to each other. You can freely move the individual items using the arrows.

Correct assignment

You have correctly assigned the answer pairs by using the selection lists. Please note that you can only associate items once. If you would like to make multiple associations, please use the matrix interaction.

ID of correct answersThis section only appears if you have activated the option "Show identifier of task answers" in the user settings. It shows either the IDs of the correct answers or the variable in which the correct answers are included. More information can be found on User profile and settings.

For the task type match interaction, it is possible to configure a horizontal orientation. In addition, the source and target elements can be swapped. These alternative display styles allow for an improved representation of technical content requiring logical ordering, such as questions about mathematical or chemical equations or word order in linguistics.

Orientation

The answers of most task forms are arranged in vertical order by default , i.e. one above the other. You can, however, configure the orientation to be horizontal.

Note: In the case of a larger number of possible answers, however, a horizontal orientation is not recommended for visual reasons and because it might impair the usability of tests on mobile devices such as smartphones.

Presentation

For match interactions, it is further possible to swap the location of the source and target elements, in addition to configuring the horizontal and vertical orientation. This allows the implementation of concrete technical content, for example mathematical or chemical equations. If the beginning of the equation is provided and the participant has to find the correct end of the equation or its solution, we recommend enabling the configuration Swap source and target elements

By default, the source elements are assigned by the participants. The assignment is done from left to right. Therefore, the participant has to match the source elements on the left with the correct target elements on the right.

By activating the option Swap source and target elements, it will be the other way round, i.e. the target elements have to be assigned by the participants. This also implies that the source elements will now be provided on the right and the target elements on the left.
