Set Feedback

One of the key benefits of e-assessment is the quick and direct feedback to your participants. Depending on your test configuration, you can show them right away, whilst they are taking the test, whether they have answered the question correctly or incorrectly, how many points they have earned, and, if necessary, the correct answer.

For additional information, you can define individual feedback content, which is automatically displayed. ONYX offers the following options for automatic feedback:

  • Feedback for the whole question (true/false)
  • Feedback per answer chosen/not chosen
  • Feedback according to points achieved
  • Feedback per attempt

You can also provide participants with manual feedback, especially for open question formats (e. g. extended text interactions).

In addition to feedback for individual questions, you can display assessment information and individual feedback content for the entire test at the end of the test run. For more information, please refer to the Set test feedback help page.

Automatic feedback

Automatic feedback is displayed immediately during the test run once the participant has completed their attempt and submitted the task. You can set up general feedback to be displayed depending on whether the question was answered correctly or incorrectly. It is also possible to define individual feedback conditions based on the number of points achieved, the answers given, or the current attempt.

A text editor is available to help you format your text and insert media into your feedback.

Feedback for the whole question (true/false)

In this area, you can define general feedback to be displayed to the user for true or false answers.

  • If the question has been answered correctly, the participant receives the positive general feedback stored in the “Question answered correctly” section. A question is considered to have been answered correctly if the maximum number of points has been achieved.
  • If the question is answered incorrectly, the participant is shown the general feedback for incorrect answers, which is stored in the “Question answered incorrectly” section. A question is considered to have been answered incorrectly, if fewer than the maximum number of points have been achieved or if the answer has not earned any points at all.
  • If the participant has not answered the question, no general feedback will be displayed. If you still wish to display feedback, you can create custom feedback for the question. Custom feedback with the condition ‘Score = 0’ or ‘Score < 10’ will only be displayed based on the score, regardless of whether the participant has answered the question. An unanswered question is always awarded 0 points.

Individual feedback

Individual feedback allows you to define conditions based on your requirements and link them together. For example, you can display individual feedback to the participant based on their chosen answer.

The following options are available depending on the question type:

  • Feedback per answer chosen/not chosen
  • Feedback according to points achieved
  • Feedback per attempt
  • Feedback per numerical variables used

When defining the feedback, you can use selected operators, including equal (=) and not equal (! =).

Linking conditions: Once you have created several feedback conditions, you can configure how these conditions should be linked. Specify whether all conditions (AND) or at least one condition (OR) have to be met in order for the feedback to be displayed.

Change feedback order: If several individual feedback entries match the participant's submitted solution, they will be displayed in the order specified here. Use the arrow icons to change the order of the feedback entries.

Once the question has been submitted, the participant will receive an overview containing the assessment details, and the relevant feedback will be displayed. Please note that you can use the Test procedure configuration to control which assessment information should be displayed to the participant.

Individualised user feedback based on individual error analyses is possible through the use of variables and help functions. Further information can be found on the Expert assessment help page.

Manual feedback

Feedback from the participant to the assessor

For all questions, the author can allow comments at question level. Questions with activated comments can be commented on by the participant. This enables feedback from the participant to the assessor.

Feedback from the assessor to the participant

The assessor can comment on questions in the assessment tool to provide subsequent feedback to the participant's answer. This applies to all questions, regardless of whether they are assessed manually or automatically. For more information, see the Manual assessment help page.
