Release of course contents
Access to courses
If a course is not visible in the learning platform's catalogue or in the search results, it probably has not yet been released for all users. Such courses are only visible to course supervisors or users with specific rights.
You can access a restricted course via a link from your tutor. However, you will see the following message when opening the course:
If the course is visible to learners and accessible via the search function, but it is not possible to open its content, the following message appears. In this example, a date limit has been set by the tutor:
When opening a course, a password might be requested. The password is available from your tutor.
Access to course content
Apart from the access to courses, the visibility and access to individual content or course elements may also be restricted.
If content is restricted in visibility, it will not be displayed in the course menu (left image) until the conditions of the restriction will be fulfilled. The course menu is therefore flexible and can vary according to the time and type of use of the course (obtained assessments, work in groups).
If the course content is visible, but access is not permitted (right image), a message will appear with additional information about the conditions for access. In the example, the final test is only available for course participants (group membership) within a selected period. In addition, the learner must have passed the course element Task .
Authors can also configure individual editing rights for different course elements via access configurations. An information box then lists the rights and their conditions for the respective course element if they deviate from the standard setting of the course element.
Overview of releases
The tutor has the option to release content or restrict visibility and access using the following attributes:
- Date (content is only visible for a certain period of time)
- Group membership (content is only visible to users who belong to a certain group or are enrolled in the course)
- Assessment (further course content is only visible if a test has been passed or a certain score has been reached)
- User attributes (only users of a particular university or semester are permitted to view the content)
- Password (courses and structural elements can be protected with a password)
Tutors can also completely block content for learners.
