Licences for courses, learning ressources and documents

Use licences can be assigned to various content types (courses, learning resources, documents).

OER licences are available in the platform based on Creative Commons (CC). A CC licence provides a definition of possible limitations and restrictions regarding access, editing and use of the resource in the spirit of Open Educational Resources (OER).

Other subject-specific licences may also be assigned in the system upon request.

Available licences

The following licences are currently available:

	CC BY 4.0 Int.	Attribution: You are free to: Share - copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format; Adapt - remix, transform, and build upon the material for any purpose, even commercially.
	CC BY-SA 4.0 Int.	Attribution - ShareAlike: You are free to: Share - copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format; Adapt - remix, transform, and build upon the material for any purpose, even commercially.
	CC BY-NC 4.0 Int.	Attribution - NonCommercial: You are free to: Share - copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format; Adapt - remix, transform, and build upon the material.
	CC BY-ND 4.0 Int.	Attribution - NoDerivatives: You are free to: Share - copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format for any purpose, even commercially.
	CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 Int.	Attribution - NonCommercial - ShareAlike: You are free to: Share - copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format; Adapt - remix, transform, and build upon the material.
	CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 Int.	Attribution - NonCommercial - NoDerivatives: You are free to: Share - copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format.
	CC0 1.0	Universal: You can copy, modify, distribute and perform the work, even for commercial purposes. Attribution is not mandatory.

Assign licence to documents

The assignment of a license is possible when creating or editing an (HTML) document, uploading documents, or configuring resource or course settings.

1	When creating documents, you will find the section on licencing in the lower part of the dialogue. Click on *Assign new licence*.
2	Select the desired licence from the list using the *Assign licence* button.
3	The selected licence will be displayed below the document content. Please carefully check the information and, if necessary, add any information missing in the metadata.
4	Save your entries.
5	If the column *Licence* has been configured, licence icons will be displayed in the table.

Assign licence to courses and learning resources

The assignment of a licence to a course or learning resource is already possible when the resource is created and analogous to the licencing of a document:

To assign a licence after the resource has been created or to change the assignment, select the function Edit title and description from the course settings menu.

To change the title and description of an existing resource, proceed as follows:

1	Open the course or learning resource, you wish to edit.
2	Select the entry Edit title and description from the more settings menu.
3	A dialogue opens in which you can make your changes. Click on Done to confirm your changes and close the dialogue. Please note that these changes only affect the course title. They have no effect whatsoever on the title of the first course element, the so-called main course node. Changes to the main course node can only be made in the course editor. Show licence

Licencing information can be found in the more course or learning resource information area. Additionally, licences can also be displayed in a separate column in the table view.

Remove licence

Assigned licences can be easily removed and replaced by other licences. To do this, switch to the dialogue in which the licence was assigned. For documents, this view can be opened using the Edit button. Then click on the recycle bin icon next to the currently used licence. This will remove the assigned licence, and a new assignment can be made.

Search for resources with a licence

Search results of the global as well as the course internal search can be restricted to resources with an assigned OER licence in the advanced search settings.
