Learning ressources and course elements
Learning resources
Learning resources are resources to support the learning process. They can either be individually created and used or integrated into courses. Learning resources are, for example, tests, resource folders, wikis, and blogs. Further information is provided in the chapter Learning resources.
Course elements
Course elements are elements that can be integrated into courses in order to provide learning content or tools. By means of their setting options, they can be individually adapted to many teaching and learning needs.
The following course elements are at your disposal:
Learners are assigned or select tasks and hand in solutions. The tutor can view and assess these solutions and return documents.
Assessments performed by the tutor, including assessments of non-digital performances (lectures, etc.), can be viewed here.
The course element Blog contains content written by the tutor or other learners or entries from an external blog.
The course element Check List allows the tutor to create to-do lists. Learners can work their way through the list items alone or together in groups.
The course element CP Learning Content gives a clear presentation of various learning content. The pages can be structured like a book and divided into chapters.
The course element File Discussion allows learners to have discussions based on an uploaded file.
The course element Enrolment allows learners to enrol in learning groups, which enables them to participate in a course and have access to course or group content.
The course element Email provides course participants with the opportunity to communicate directly with the author or recipients specified by the author.
The course element Single Page displays external content created or integrated by the tutor.
In the course element Forum, participants have the option to exchange information, discuss important matters, and ask questions to the course supervisors.
The course element Survey allows tutors to conduct surveys and evaluate them statistically. All information will be stored anonymously.
The course element Calendar can be used to arrange appointments.
The course element Course allows for the integration of additional courses as well as for the combination of different learning content.
The course element Flashcard Set helps to acquire and consolidate knowledge.
The course element Link List allows for the collection of links to external websites and content within the learning platform.
The course element Bibliography provides learners with an overview of the literature used in the course and suggestions for further reading.
Using the course element LTI Tool, you can integrate external learning applications into your course, e.g. an external chat, a MediaWiki, a test editor, or a virtual chemistry laboratory.
The course element Media Centre allows authors to provide learners with a variety of different media to support them in their learning process.
Authors can publish messages in the course to keep their participants informed about all news regarding the course.
In the course element Folder, files can be collected and stored. Depending on the settings of the tutor, learners can download, upload, and create files.
The course element Podcast allows for the integration of audio and video files. Its view and function are similar to the course element Blog.
In the course element Portfolio Task, learners can pick up portfolio tasks and submit their collaborative folders filled with artefacts for assessment.
The course element SCORM allows for the integration of external learning content, which can also store and transmit assessments to the learning platform.
The course elements Self-Test and Test enable knowledge testing with different answer formats. If a self-test is performed, only the learner receives feedback on the results achieved.
In this area, course participants have the option to create a personal profile and introduce themselves to other learners. The course element Profile can also be used to publish statements on predefined topics in the course.
The course element Structure facilitates a clear course design as well as the thematic grouping of content. Moreover, it can be used to summarise assessments.
The course element Date Allocation allows for the creation of date lists. These lists can be made available to learners to sign in.
In the course element Topic Assignment, learners have the option to choose one or more topics to work on (e.g. presentation or term paper topics). After completing their topics, they will also be able to hand in their solutions here. The tutor can then view these solutions and return documents.
In the course element Virtual Classroom, online conferences and online course seminars can be held, and the author has the option to interact directly with the participants.
With a course element Wiki, articles and content can be created and collaboratively edited. |
Sharing content
The tutor can freely configure the visibility and access to a course element. Content can, for example, be restricted by means of a date or group membership.
If a content is not visible to learners, it will not be displayed in the course menu. If a content is not accessible, in contrast, it will be displayed in the course menu, and you are provided with detailed release information. For more information, see the section Release of course content.
Additional functions in the course
The following additional functions are at your disposal:
You can mark a course as a favourite. The marked course will be displayed in the main navigation under Teach & Learn in the category Favourites. Additionally, you can also add the Portlet Favourites to the home page and use it as a quick access to the course.
You have the possibility to set a course as home page. It will therefore be the first page to appear after the login.
You can take notes for every course. The portlet My Notes provides an overview of all notes you have created so far.
You can browse course content by clicking the magnifying glass icon in the top right corner and entering your search term. |
